FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does the Brass Touch-Free Opener reduce exposure to viruses?
When you use the opener, the contact area is heavily reduced, so exposure to surface viruses is also heavily reduced. Imagine opening a refrigerator door in a store – and that it was covered in glitter. If you grab the handle with your hand, you are touching a large area on the handle – for the average person, this will be around 50 square centimetres. Using the Touch-Free Opener, the contact area is less than 1 square centimetre. Now, think of the glitter again. There is a chance that the point of contact has no glitter – and even if it does, the exposure is much less than using your hand. When there are multiple people in the one community all using the opener, the effectiveness is multiplied, so consider our multi-packs for office and apartment blocks.
Does the Brass Touch-Free Opener kill Covid-19 and other viruses?
The main component of brass is copper which has antimicrobial properties. Our opener is made of brass with 65% copper content. Viruses will survive a shorter time on brass than on most other materials. Typically, a virus might survive 4 hours on brass – in contrast, it can survive 3-4 days on a material like stainless steel. While there is a benefit to making the opener from brass, it does not kill virus bacteria on touch – for this, you need a disinfectant.
How do I use my Brass Touch-Free Opener?
Your opener is supplied in a velvet-style bag. We recommend you keep it in this or some other bag when not in use. Alternatively, it is also supplied on a keyring, so you can easily attach to your keys. It’s important that you clean your opener with an anti-bacterial wipe, or with hot soapy water – just as you would clean your hands. Remember, the opener reduces exposure – it does not kill viruses on touch.
Where can I use my Brass Touch-Free Opener?
Your opener is designed to push and pull. Use it to push elevator buttons, light switches, door handles, ATM and EFTPOS buttons. Use it to pull open entry doors, refrigerators, cupboard handles, letterboxes. The opener will work on some touchscreens, though our experience is that most commercial touchscreens don’t respond consistently to a brass stylus.
