Minority Report

What's Next? The 2017 retail, wholesale, and distribution industry outlook

minority report marketing

Interesting to read Deloitte's latest predictions for Retail and more in 2017. On these pages, we've looked at Retail Agility - what it is and what it means for retailers at the shop floor.

I've recently highlighted Retail Dexterity as a complementary mindset - arguably, these are the same thing. Pop "Retail Agility" into a search engine though and you'll find the conversation defaulting to some exciting, new technologies. Some of these present amazing ways to get close to your customer, enabling "Minority Report"-like one-to-one marketing. How agile is this though? If your neighbour takes an action impacting your retail environment, how quickly can you react at the shop floor? Technologies continue to become vital in getting close to the customer - and yet they are generally decided by a long sales process, often at a head office. There's also a need for regular and speedy action at the floor.

Deloitte have highlighted this in their new report for 2017 - "Agility and flexibility are apt to be required for retailers to thrive in 2017 and beyond". Discussed here are the risks that retailers face from "retail disruptors", those who are able to act and react more nimbly, without traditional constraints.
