Who gave the 6 year old a trolley? 4 ways to protect retail danger spots

Who gave the 6 year old a trolley? 4 ways to protect retail danger spots

McCue Blog Post

We all have those ideas that seemed good at the time. For me, quite a lot of them involve my 6-Year old!

Family-friendly Australian retailers have brightly-coloured miniature shopping trolleys, that young children can push through the store as they accompany their parents. A great idea, right? The equation reads like this:

Happy Child + Longer Time In Store = Higher Shopping Spend*

And then there's my child. Mini-trolley in hand, she's off at the speed of sound and I spend the next 30 minutes in pursuit to prevent the impending collisions.

But here's the thing - nobody needs a licence to drive a shopping trolley. And for many reasons, big trolleys in the hands of grown-ups collide with fixtures throughout your store. Then there's heavy equipment used throughout your store. Some days, stores seem like dodgem car circuits!

There are four ways you can stop collision damage and keep your store operating in top condition:

  1. Corners are Impact Magnets. Installing corner guards or bollards at corners in higher traffic areas will absorb direct impacts and deflect glancing blows
  2. Rail systems that run the length of sales areas - for example, open refrigerators - are effective in preventing damage from heavy machinery, such as floor polishers
  3.  It's not only low points that are in danger - bumper protection is ideal for fruit and vegetable displays
  4. Everything happens at double-time at the back of store. Heavy duty fixture protection keeps both your people and your environment safe.
